New Moon & Planet 51

Fri Nov 20, 2009, 10:26 PM
Ok, I'm about --||-- this close to joining all of you anti-Twilight people, just because of what happened to me at the movie theater tonight.

It's Friday so I felt like going out. Decided to treat myself to a movie. Thought I might see New Moon, since it's playing. Didn't realize how CRAZY some Twilight fans are about it.

I should have known something was up when I pulled into the parking lot and it was so full that some people were parking in places where there were no places. I ended up following a big line of cars around and around in a little parade until finally a spot opened up, a tiny little nook that I could barely squeeze into, but I did.

Then I could hardly make it into the lobby what with all the bodies pressed up against the door.

I went up to the ticket counter and there was a big sign that said "New Moon tickets sold out". Good grief. I looked around. Everyone and their cousin was there, dressed in Twilight apparel and waiting for a showing that wouldn't even start for another 45 minutes.

I was on my way out when my stubborn streak kicked in and I decided that since I drove all this way I might as well see something. I scanned the board and all I could find was...Planet 51.

Ok, fine.

I stood in line for a soda and listened to all the Twilight fans brag about how early they'd arrived. When I finally sat down in the theater, I started texting a friend of mine who had gone to see New Moon at the midnight premiere last night. I told her about the meyhem and how the tickets were sold out till next year. She replied that the reason she was able to see it was that she had bought her tickets online three weeks in advance.

Ugh...

I called my husband to complain, but he didn't pick up, so I left him a bunch of snarky messages. Then the curtain went up and the previews started.

Planet 51 was ok as CG movies go. Definitely not as good as Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs in my opinion, but entertaining enough...though I felt weird being there by myself. (There were only a few other people in the theater and of course they were families with young kids.)

All through the movie and after I had a pounding headache. I think it actually started as a dull throb before I left home. Kind of like an ominous warning that I should have listened to.

Oh but the fun was just starting.

So then I got in the car and started driving home. I decided to stop by McDonald's. The sign said they were open but the door was locked and they all just stared at me, not letting me in. The line at the drive-thru was too long. I decided to pass on McDonald's.

I got back on the highway and headed for home. As soon as I got out into the open country area, I found myself driving through extremely dense fog. I'm supposed to get free text alerts for fog, but did I get one? Nooo.

Now this is bad for two reasons. Number one, I'm only barely getting over my fear of driving at night, so complications are just gonna make that worse. And number two, the only way I can recognize my turn-off is by a blinking cell phone tower that I CAN'T SEE because it's so stinking foggy. :dead:

So I'm behind a truck and a beetle and we're all just inching down the highway while I'm praying to God for there to be a break in the fog long enough for me to see the light on the tower...

Finally I see it up ahead, for about five seconds before it disappears again. Then, when I'm right up on it, I see it again. I make my turn. Thank you God.

I pull into the driveway, walk in the front door of my house, and find my husband playing with cats. I tell him to check his phone for messages. Hilarity ensues (for him).

Bottom line--I'll probably never go to the movies by myself again for as long as I live. :dead:
